Primary Responsibilities

• Develop Proficiency
  • Gain expertise in Java, Python, SQL, Microsoft Azure, and Microsoft Office tools (Excel, Access, PowerPoint)
  • Learn to work with Entity Relational Database Models and Data Warehousing design principles
  • Utilize UHG’s Big Data Analytics Infrastructure (Hadoop, R, Python) to solve healthcare-related problems
  • Acquire knowledge of the US healthcare domain
• Requirements Analysis and Planning
  • Work under senior data engineers to gather requirements and create data models for Data Science and BI projects
  • Assist in developing project plans and defining implementation activities
  • Participate in client communications for data exploration and strategy discussions
  • Document metadata and present findings during team meetings
• Collaboration
  • Coordinate with Enterprise and Data Lake Teams to understand data storage and extraction methods
  • Partner with Data Science and BI teams to engineer platform approaches for business solutions
• Design and Develop
  • Build Data Marts, de-normalized views, and data models
  • Develop data quality control processes around analytical data sets
• Capability Development
  • Work with senior team members to develop new team capabilities
  • Adhere to company policies, employment terms, and directives, including location changes, work shift adjustments, and evolving business needs

Required Qualifications

• Graduate degree or equivalent experience
• 0–2 years of experience with:
• Programming: Python or Scala or Java
• Cloud: Microsoft Azure
• NoSQL Databases: HBase, MongoDB, or Cassandra
• Unix Shell Scripting
• Version Control: GitHub
• Relational Databases: SQL Server, Oracle, Teradata, IBM DB2, or MySQL

Preferred Qualifications

• Familiarity with Big Data Ecosystem: Hive, Sqoop, Spark (RDD, SQL, Streaming), Kafka
• Knowledge of Dimensional Modeling in Big Data or Cloud environments
• Experience with Data Warehousing Design: FACT tables, Snowflake schema
• Knowledge of Agile/Scrum methodologies
• Understanding of Elastic Search, Containerization (Docker, Kubernetes)
• Exposure to Cloud Technologies (Azure or AWS)
• Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint
